WALNUT, GARNET AND GLASS BEAD BLASTING

Welcome
At Island Quick Strip we pride ourselves in offering you Vancouver Island’s most efficient, cost effective and environmentally responsible method of removing unwanted paint, rust, or corrosion from your metal restoration projects.

As with any restorative process, it’s important to do the job right! Bringing your project to Island Quick Strip ensures you prompt and courteous service and is the first and most important step in the renewal process.

Our process is a two-part system. First we remove unwanted paint, dirt, and caked-on debris with crushed walnut shells.

wallnutsWALNUT SHELL: Ground walnut shells are a type of abrasive blast media used for cleaning. Unlike some other medias such as soda or chemicals, walnut shell blasting leaves no residue. It is clean and dust free. Typical substrates are metals, fiberglass, wood, plastic and stone. The walnut shells are ground to various sizes from coarse to extra fine depending on the application. Walnut shells are durable and can be re-used in many applications making it very cost effective. The crushed shells remove matter from surfaces without scratching or pitting the underlying material.

Walnut shell is biodegradable, non-toxic, environmentally safe, and cost effective and does not harm the substrate in any way. It is “metal friendly” and leaves the material smooth and ready for sealant and paint.

The second step in our process is Garnet blasting. This material is used to remove any rust or corrosion.

GARNET:Garnet is a semi-precious stone. Its natural properties make it an efficient abrasive for blast cleaning applications. Garnet is primarily used for blasting steel and aluminum substrates. Its high density and physical properties make it perhaps nature’s best abrasive for dry or wet blasting applications.
There are several reasons why we use Garnet in the restorative process. The hardness of Garnet provides for high efficiency and low breakdown rate thereby making it a cost effective blasting media.
Garnet is an inert, non-toxic natural mineral and does not cause any health risks and is environmentally friendly. It also provides for superior profile surfacing. The garnet grains are able to reach deep into the cavities of the metal surface and create a uniform profile that is virtually free of embedment and provides an excellent surface for coating adhesion.

Our motto:
“If a job is worth doing… It’s worth doing it right”

Restoration projects are often long term and can be very expensive. If the job isn’t done right from the onset you may find yourself with the frustration and expense of doing it all over again in a very short period of time. However, if the job’s done right in the beginning … It’ll last a life-time.
